a real life rd

Almost 2 weeks ago I took the RD exam (Registered Dietitian). I went in terrified. They made me turn out my pockets and wouldn't let me take my chapstick in. Don't they know that I need it every 10-14 minutes?! I lathered and lathered my lips, but they were getting a bit chapped near the conclusion of my exam. As I went through the test questions, I swear I didn't know anything. I was terrified when it said my test was finished. I went up to the lady who printed out my test. She took a glanced, turned it over, and handed it to me. Oh great, she probably just saw that I FAILED MY TEST. I turned it over and saw a

Congratulations!

Holy crap. I was kind of in shock. I'm a real life RD now. A real life one! I have a title!

Emily Jenkins, RD, CD.

(CD is certified dietitian. You have to be certified in your state of practice).

I guess I'm a big deal now. I'm FINALLY a big deal!!!!!!!

And I never have to take a test again in my life. Praise the heavens. I'm done.

mardi gras

Last night was Mardi Gras. At first it was kinda lame... we got air brush tattoos. Mine says "Born to Ride". I wanted one that said "Angel" with a halo on the A, but they couldn't find it. So I had to settle for second most middle schoolesque.

Eventually, the dance became hoppin and that's when the fun began. I got super hyper and went cray cray. I accidentally punched a girl in the head while dancing... sorry lady. It wasn't very hard, though.

At one point, I was dancing hard; didn't care who I bumped into or who thought I was a freak. Some guy started making a circle around me. He like moved people to clear a fairly sized circle around me. I've never been in a real dance circle before. Let alone dance classy enough to get one made especially for me. Twice.

I'm gonna add that to my bucket list and check it off!

Here's a little video to show my after Mardi Gras hangover, if you will, with Lizzie.

vancouver

I'm moving to this place in the fall. Back to my roots. I was born there, but we moved when I was a mere three years old. I don't remember it at all, but I have a love for it for obvious reasons.

I'm moving there for part of my dietetics internship. I am stoked. Mostly just to move somewhere new and especially somewhere as pretty as Vancouver, Washington. It's 5 hours away from Canada, 4 hours away from Forks, and 3 hours away from Seattle. I will be visiting all of those places. Oh, and it's like ten minutes away from Portland. Right by the Columbia River.

What a dream.

slow strider

i am a very, very slow walker. i got it from my mother. she likes to walk as slowly as possible, while people watching in every direction. i don't do as much of the people watching. i just walk slow. when i'm on my way to class and realize that i'm going to be late, i can't get myself to walk faster.

like today.

class started in 3 minutes and i was a 6 minute emily walk away. these 2 kids from my class crossed the street to walk right in front of me. i said to myself, "keep up with them." well, they looked like they were walking, but really they were running, which i very quickly discovered. i could not keep up. i started walking faster, fast enough to get me breathing much faster. i looked up, they were gone! not really, but they were a lot smaller than they had been 5 seconds ago.

i was late. they weren't.

final final

Tomorrow is the day.

I had five big ones this semester. The final final is chemistry, oh chemistry. As in, Oh-ganic chemistry. Just the thought of it makes my nose itch. But the thought of being done makes my belly roar. I'm hungry for the end.

I'll finally (haha get it?) be able to get in Christmas mode.

Now let me tell you what is so great about that particular mode. It's joyous!

When you're feeling joyous, you don't do crappy things like homework! You do things like drink bubbly. Or have sleepovers with your sisters. Or eat a whole roll of toll house cookie dough with them as fast as you can and maybe even hold hands.

My favorite holiday memory is when I was a young chitlin with a mushroom haircut. I was carefree with no worries but what my siblings got for Christmas that I didn't get. Well one year my sister got a remote control race car track. I wasn't jealous. I just wanted it for myself. How could I get it? I thought, I'd have to trade one of my gifts. I had a nice big teddy bear, a piano songbook, and... an orange. I showed her the orange and all the cool tricks I could do with it: throw it in the air, watch it fall back down, roll it around the floor. She thought that was stupid. So, I gave up.

I was a great example of humility that day. I gave up what I wanted for someone else's happiness. I just never thought it would be so hard.

Anyways, I'm really, really essited. Here's a Christmas video to spread the joy.

dietetics

I got into my program!
I almost didn't apply because they scared me (and a bunch of other girls) and made us think we wouldn't get in. But it turns out only so many people were even qualified and I was one of them!
So my program starts in the fall. I go for 2 more years (ugh) then up to a year long internship. Anywhere in the country. That I'm excited for.
It sucks that it's going to take longer than I want, but I really love it so it'll be worth it!
